It is no coincidence that ancient Greece is considered the birthplace of civilization; it was here that the rapid development of culture, science, and art began. Moreover, ancient Greece was the source of classical literature, which today is studied in detail in schools and universities around the world. Of course, everyone probably knows about Homer’s two unsurpassed poems, The Iliad and The Odyssey, but did you know that the prosperity of Greek literature can be divided into three parts – Classical, Hellenistic, and Roman? Or have you ever heard of Plutarch, Sappho, and Pindar? Now I will try to explain and classify the main milestones in ancient Greek literature and name a few more brilliant writers you have not yet heard of.
