The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt is a new edition of a truly epic game that has gained massive popularity over the past years. Such success should not come as a surprise because the game world is impressive and mind-blowing. Developed by CD Projekt Red, the game continues to tell the story of Gerald of Rivia and his breath-taking adventures. In this series, the hero experiences a transformation from a warlike wanderer in the first game into a mature and reflective warrior. In my opinion, The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt is one of the best fantasy RPG games of this year, and in this review, I will prove that to you.
The Plot
Even though the game is created to help you relax and dive into the fantasy world, you still have a pretty intense plot with lots of missions coming one after another. In the search for notice boards, you will ride on the back of the horse across the amazing landscape of the game, make pest-control deals, and find some treasures on the way.
Trying to find the tracks of a woman he used to love and a future child, Geralt will have to go through numerous battles with ordinary villains as well as beasts and spirits, accidentally getting involved in international disputes that will have game-changing consequences. And that is only a small part of the things the main hero will get into to pursue his aim.
Visual Effects
If you have played any other editions of The Witcher, you should already know that visuals and animations are always great. But this time, the developers outperformed themselves. Every detail of this fantasy world looks so real that you can almost touch a tree or any other object in the game. The landscapes are perfectly designed and match all weather conditions, from rain and clouds to fog and sun. Facial expressions of characters deserve special attention. They look lively and realistic even in close-up. That is probably one of the reasons you get attached to the characters so much, as you feel like they are real people with real emotions.
Magic World
When you load the game, you get entirely immersed in the fantasy world full of mystery, adventures, and otherworldly creatures. The minute you start playing, the real world stops to exist. All your attention is grabbed by a mission that only you can manage to complete. Yeap, here you will have to use all means in order to succeed: brew potions, fight monsters, and improve your skills. And don’t think that leveling up your weak sides can be boring. Perhaps that is the case with other games, but not with Wild Hunt. You enjoy every moment of the game, including even routine tasks.
Even though I can’t say that the game has a clear open world, some big areas can cover miles of unique scenery. Wandering through them for many hours makes you not even pay attention to this detail. Besides, there are so many quests that you are always busy deciding which one to take next. However, you can always take a break from the storyline and just enjoy the beauty of the landscape riding on horseback here and there.
It seems that the game world has endless possibilities, and you don’t know what can happen next. And when you start to get used to the gaming process and think that you have seen it all, it opens up from a new angle and leaves you astonished. That is pretty much what Wild Hunt can do. I noticed one more thing, but I don’t know if it is just me or developers really wanted to tease players with every quest. They give you threads for other missions and don’t forget about the storyline, but the bottom line is you have to have a certain level to take a particular quest. And even though it is optional, there is no way of getting through it without hard effort if you have a lower level. Jeez, you can’t imagine how mad I was testing it myself. So trust me and level up first.
Verdict
It may seem pretty obvious, but The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt is something I definitely recommend to play. The pros are endless! To name a few, there are lots of interesting missions, characters are just lovely, and the game world itself is coherent and immersive. And while some may complain about long loading time or occasional framerate drop, I say it’s something so insignificant compared to the pile of enjoyment it gives us. OMG, I got a bit nostalgic. I guess it is time to play the game once again! Don’t hesitate to do the same, mate!
