The Best Comedy Series of the 21st Century

Comedy-netflix

Want to binge-watch something on Netflix and don’t know what? I’ve got your back. Read on my ultimate top three best comedy series of the 21st century!

The Office

Would I rather be feared or loved? Easy. Both. I want people to be afraid of how much they love me.

the-office

The series talks about the life of clerks: their ups and downs and banter over each other. Collected all the mask characters you’ve ever heard of: the careless boss who thinks he is “his” – Michael Scott; modest, honest, girl – Pam Beazley; local jester – Jim Halpert; greedy for money, henchman of the main one – Dwight Schrute and many others. But, most importantly, in this sitcom, familiar stereotypes become real people with their own problems and feelings. It’s funny because it’s true and that’s why we love The Office.

Reasons you’ll fall in love with this series:

  • similarity to reality TV, which gives liveliness to the project
  • improvisation of actors
  • subtle, ambivalent humor
  • the feeling of complete immersion and participation in history
  • pranks between Jim and Dwight
  • the one-liners

Parks and Recreation

“I’m not interested in caring about people. I once worked with a guy for three years and never learned his name. Best friend I ever had. We still never talk sometimes.

The series is smart, satirical, ridiculous, but so heartwarming at the same time. Honestly, it’s everything you could want from a series. Plus, Leslie Knope is a feminist icon in her own right.

This series dispels the myths that stories about deputies are criminally dull. Leslie Knope is the head of the Indianapolis Parks Department. For several seasons, she has been trying to fill a massive hole in the city center and erect a dream park in its place. Seems like little things? But it is simply impossible to tear yourself away from the series. Urbanists would approve!

Brooklyn 9-9

Cool, cool, cool, cool, cool. No doubt, no doubt, no doubt.

Cops are people too. Sometimes they are funny and ridiculous, arrogant and mischievous, sensitive and awkward. Brooklyn 9-9 shows the everyday life of cops, their difficult relationships in the team, comical situations with the collection of testimony, and joking at the crime scene. It’s just like The Office but only with weapons, a more thoughtful script, and well-thought-out jokes. In general, this sitcom is worth watching, if only for the sake of seeing a careless inventor as the lead detective. It’s one of those shows that starts out funny and quickly escalates to hilarious. Never has crime-solving been so fun!

Reasons you’ll fall in love with this series:

  • the personality of the characters and the influence of their character on the development of events
  • lack of toilet humor and simple puns
  • impeccable caste, acting out their roles brighter and cooler with each new season (Andy Samberg, Andre Braugher, Terry Crews, Melissa Fumero, Joe Lo Truglio)
  • lightness and optimism of the narration
  • surprisingly careless, but at the same time noticing everything, the main character

Friends

How you doin?

friends

And finally, Friends, the most iconic sitcom of all time. Our parents watched it, we did, and our children will probably watch it too.

In ten years, the stories of six friends have received six Emmy Awards (nominated 44 times), People’s Choice Awards, Golden Globe Awards, and the Actors Guild. The sitcom had a significant impact on the English language, Fashion (Rachel became the standard style and trendsetter) and increased the popularity of small coffee places and the number of people who wanted to study to be paleontologists and chefs.

The show spawned dozens of catchphrases. And Friends still remains one of the methods of learning a foreign language when watching it in the original voice acting. Heroes build their lives, fall in love and hate, look for work, quit, make difficult decisions, and reveal themselves in serious deeds. But no matter what happens to them, they invariably meet at Central Perk or at Monica’s apartment to discuss burning issues.

Reasons you’ll fall in love with this series:

  • life humor without ambiguity and vulgarity
  • the professionalism of each scene
  • thoughtfulness of characters
  • crazy energy and dynamics
  • a lifetime of 10 seasons
