Not so long ago, my friends and I, who are ardent fans of video games to one degree or another, raised the topic of the best video games we have ever played. Of course, game developers and critics have specific criteria for evaluating a particular game, and we, ordinary players, have our own. I will not outline games that were released more than 10 years ago because then, the list will be much more extensive and influenced by nostalgia.
In this review, I will try to present games that will appeal to all fans of video games without exception. I would also recommend these games to those who are just starting to play video games and are simply lost because of enormous choice. Well, shall we begin?
Let me start with my favorite one, which is The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild, released in 2017. This action RPG is intended for the Nintendo Switch and Wii U platforms. In 2010, it managed to take 3rd place in the Guinness Book of World Records as one of the best gaming series of all time. Here, players have the right to decide where to go – and adventures and obstacles will find them very fast. To do this, you need to open the map and put a marker anywhere – and boldly hit the road.
By the way, you will play as the main character Link, who can fly, swim, climb vertical surfaces – and all for the sake of finding and rescuing Princess Zelda.
On your path, which is not short and will run through a wide variety of terrains, you will meet many uniquely drawn heroes, the inhabitants of the kingdom of Hyrule, who will help you and prepare a final attack on the main villain.
From time to time, you will meet characters with whom you will have long dialogues and who will give tasks to Link. It is worth noting that the game captivates not with a large number of quests and searches for collectible items but with an elusive inner and outer beauty. There is a strong survival element here. To complete your action successfully, you will have to think ahead, including always paying attention to the weather and learning to survive in the wild, making your journey more challenging and varied. If you are attracted to video games where there is no excessive cruelty, but at the same time, you like to go through difficulties, you will surely feel the atmosphere of this game.
The creators of Grand Theft Auto V also thought about more freedom in 2013 and added players’ ability to switch between three original characters in their fifteenth game. The scene of Grand Theft Auto V is the nonexistent city of Los Santos, and the heroes are bank robbers and good acquaintances – Trevor and Michael. Your goal will be to steal hundreds of millions of dollars from the US Federal Vault, which, of course, cannot be done without obstacles.
Each of your actions will lead the player to one of three endings. In this action game, you can go around the city and its surroundings, steal cars, rob people, or just live a more or less ordinary peaceful life. Each of the heroes has their own unique characteristics that I will not reveal to you – give the game a try yourself. All in all, the play of the heroes, dialogues full of funny jokes and sarcastic responses, and truthful characters – all this captivates with its natural and a bit brutal fleur. Be prepared for too realistic scenes of sexual nature and even cruelty – the streets of Los Santos are full of different people, so it will be hot!
No less colorful and at the same time contradictory characters will delight those players who choose Red Dead Redemption 2. Why is it so fascinating? I will say from my own experience – after playing it for several hours, I could not resist and was returning to it again and again. There are so many layers and storylines in this classic western!
The main character, Arthur Morgan, evokes both a feeling of enthusiasm for his heroic actions and deep disappointment because he is, after all, a criminal and a robber. The creators vividly describe the end of the Wild West era and allow players to see how the game’s main characters try to get along in civilization. Selective humor, the contrast between rich and poor, and the eternal war between them – you will find a whole lot of emotions and a plot that is in no way inferior even to Tarantino’s Hateful Eight.
Recent years have also pleased us with various exciting new products that will not leave anyone indifferent. The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt, God of War IV, The Outer Worlds, Bloodborne – they all have every chance to become your favorite.
